Representing the entire State of Maryland’s Brown Swiss Cattle Association is an extreme honor and a great responsibility.  When you wear a tiara or sash people will be watching and listening to all you say and do and will relate it back to the industry you represent and love.  You want it to be positive because you are representing wonderful animals and great people as ambassadors and promoters of the breed. You need to behave in a manner that will bring honor and respect to yourself, your family, and your industry.  You can be a great marketing tool by reaching out to others and igniting an interest about Brown Swiss Cattle.  There are guidelines that you must follow.  Please be sure you are willing to follow them prior to applying.  Deviation from these guidelines could result in the removal of your title.

1. Show courtesy and consideration, displaying good manners.  Be pleasant and smile.

            2. Be knowledgeable about the industry and able to converse about it with others.

3  If someone confronts you remain courteous and do not engage in confrontational behavior.  Find an adult to intervene and assist.

            4. Provide a wholesome, professional image—NO vulgar language, gum chewing, smoking or use of tobacco products.

            5. Other than ears, absolutely no body piercings.  No visible tattoos.  If you have one already, you MUST keep it covered at all times—a band-aid works well.

            6. Consumption of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs warrants immediate dismissal.

            7. Try to drink milk when wearing royalty attire.  If you need something else to drink please try to make it as inconspicuous as possible.

            8.  When serving as royalty do not engage in displays of public affection with a boyfriend

(holding hands, kissing, arm around waist etc.) You need to be available to the public to do the job!

            9.  Do not show cattle in your royal attire—you must show in whites.  Conversely, if involved in the show, you must change from whites to royal attire to hand out ribbons.

10.  Dress Code for royalty attire (when wearing tiara and sash.)

Formal show ring events, dinners, receptions—tea-length or floor length gowns,

Dressy and professional events-dress, skirt&blouse, black or khaki dress pants (not jeans), suits.

Casual wear (example: Field day) —dress, skirt, black or khaki dress pants, capris,  sleeveless             tops are acceptable. No shorts or tank style tops.

Use good judgement about clothes, makeup and hairstyle remembering the wholesome, classic, attractive image.  Extremes in any of these will make you look harsh and not bear the test of time.

Any straps need to be wide enough to cover bra straps.  Bras must always be worn but never seen!

Appropriate length for a dress or skirt is no more than a dollar bill width above the knee.  Also, sit in a chair in front of a mirror with legs crossed at the ankle as a test.

NO low cut tops/dresses or crop tops (no skin to show in middle when arms are raised)

NO flip-flops.  Also, clunky shoes do not go well with dresses and skirts.

Only closed-toed shoes in the show ring.

No logo or picture on the clothing.

If the clothing is fitted invest in a good undergarment or forgo wearing it.

Loose styles are cooler and need less structure underneath to wear well.

Always pin your sash at the shoulder to keep it in place.

If you have any questions regarding the dress code ask advice from the Junior Advisors, the contact member or an officer of the organization prior to the event.  Any doubt in your mind about suitability probably means you should choose something else.

We have read the application, rules, and statement of responsibility and agree to comply with all requirements.
